I make pictures for family, friends, and strangers in order to find the hidden qualities of my subjects. Photography opens me up to interact with people I would otherwise not be able to engage with in any setting. My goal is to use my camera to reveal the truth of the world rather than a stereotypical life, but also open a new world of relationships, chances at new beginnings and new stories. I use photography as a means to document the world around me. I create pictures that call to action things that other people overlook.
My current work, Local, Friendly, Gone and The Blind Side, reveals my feelings about my home community and is compiled to display how I preserve the societal issue of mom and pop shops going out of business and being surveillance by the government. They can reveal landscapes that return to our eyes as framed surveillance that watches without recording. Due to the rise in companies such as Amazon and UberEats, San Diego businesses are beginning to shut down. Local consumers want to purchase what they need with ease, which leads them to choose what requires less effort. People are in favor of the new easy lifestyle, so locally owned businesses will become a thing of the past.
I have photographed a range of young people, exploring SoCals manifestations as gender, ethnicity, societal, cultural dynamics, and the complexities of the concerns of young adults. As more people are aware of our world’s issues, the documentations I create will contribute to the history of the time I have stood on this earth to share the experience of one’s life.
